ethical guide names Brother as number one

A newly published report from the Ethical Company Organisation, The Good Office Guide, is making life easier for technology purchasers looking to invest in ethically sound technology.

As environmental and ethical concerns weigh increasingly heavy on office managers and CIOs, the Ethical Company Organisation has compiled a report on the good (and the not so good) suppliers of office technology.

Office technology manufacturer, Brother, came top of the report, which takes into consideration both environmental concerns, such as energy consumption and emissions as well as ethical issues including human rights and affiliations with the nuclear and arms industries.

The report takes into account 12 different ethical criteria and, based on these, calculates an overall Ethical Company index rating. The highest that can be achieved is 100 which was achieved by Brother.

Chris Hinds, Brother’s head of marketing commented: “Environmental and ethical concerns are an increasingly important factor for customers and this report provides the best guide to assess the credentials of leading brands.

“Brother works extremely hard to ensure its operations are ethical and environmentally friendly. For example, all our research, design and manufacturing processes have been overhauled to achieve the stringent TCO’99 standard for environmental product performance and accessibility. To date, we remain the only printer manufacturer to have achieved this mark.”
