acs RoHS policy

The European Union (EU) introduced new directives on electrical and electronic equipment in relation to its composition and the levels to which it should be recycled.

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive restricts the use of six hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products.

As of 1 July 2006, new electrical and electronic products that contain more than the agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium (or chromium VI), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants are banned from the EU. A wide range of goods is affected, from computers and telecommunications equipment, to domestic appliances and electronic tools, toys and automatic dispensers.

The responsibility for meeting the requirements of this legislation rests with the “producer”, irrespective of the method of selling used.

acs office solutions is not a producer. However, as a supplier of such goods, we believe that we should take action to ensure that the products that we supply to our customers are compliant.

We have written to all our suppliers, asking them to confirm that this is the case for their products. They have been well aware of and prepared for the legislation and the replies to date are all positive – with some directing us to specific manufacturers’ websites that confirm compliance.

We feel confident that the products sold by acs are RoHS compliant. However, should we be advised that any products are non compliant, we will cease supplying these products immediately.
